A Seahawks perspective on the Rams off season moves so far.

Check out this article on SeahawksHuddle.com, it gives their take on the Rams off season moves from a Shehawk perspective.

Rams New Flavors for 2007
- Perry J. Thebeau, St. Louis Rams

The Huddle Network Before we get into the Rams offensive free agency news, let’s not forget one tiny point of fact. The Rams rush defense blows thirty-one chunks of rancid stinking waste (as in 31st against the rush in 2006). The offense on the other hand is formidably seasoned with a variety of delicious flavors as the Rams continue cooking up their 2007 assault…

Last week, the Rams signed former Titans productive (and tall) wide receiver Drew Bennett to a six year deal. Next, the Rams signed former Dolphins tight end Randy McMichael to a three-year contract. They also signed backup running back Travis Minor.

The Rams needed these receiver acquisitions, despite the theory that Holt/Bruce are forever young. Isaac Bruce may be Hall of Fame material, but the yards after catch ain’t happening lately folks.

Torry Holt –although with top wide receiver contribution again in 2006– was less consistent last year and will be rebounding from injury in 2007 (meniscus cartilage knee pain, hopefully fixed recently). While second year journeyman tight end Joe Klopfenstein showed some promise in 2006, he lacks experience and is yet to develop offensive skills as the newly acquired Randy McMichael.

Consider what McMichael brings to the herd:

*** 22% Touchdown percentage per game over 80 games (he scores in each 4.5 games)
*** 80 games over 5 years without missing a start
*** 10.9 yard average per catch (first down!)
*** 55+ average receptions a year
*** 619 yards a year
*** Effective blocker
*** Goal line threat in the red zone
*** Offensive threat in the middle of the field between the hash marks
*** Immediate familiarity with Scott Linehan’s system

SF Seeks to get the Stink out of the City…Will it be the 49ers?

Sunday, March 11th, 2007

Mayor Gavin Newsom’s office is pushing the Navy to transfer ownership of Hunters Point Shipyard in San Francisco to the city in hope of accelerating a toxic cleanup of the property in time to meet the 49ers’ 2012 deadline to build a new football stadium.

In a Feb. 16 memo obtained by The Chronicle, the city proposes to take ownership of the former naval base and assume responsibility for removing most non-radiological toxic material provided that the Navy covers the costs.

So let me get this right. The city of San Francisco has called on the help of the Navy to rid them of the stink in their city so the other stink in the city… the 49ers, won’t leave? Im not sure which is a worse toxic waste to have in your city, the kind that glows in the dark or the kind that plays like they are in the dark. I think SF should use the space to construct a nice memorial for their hero Barry Bonds when he retires and let the 49ers move on their way. Im not sure I want the Rams playing one road game a year on a toxic waste dump. I say move it out of there so you don’t contaminate my team too!

Kevin

The Navy believes the transfer is possible. But questions remain about whether funding is available for a faster cleanup, the exact locations to be cleaned and whether the Navy can meet its obligation to rid the shipyard of radiological waste before turning it over to the city.

The city’s responsibility would include dealing with chemical and petroleum contamination and other toxic wastes. (more…)
