This Could Get Serious — In A Big Hurry

September 11th, 2007 | by LA Bob |

It’s true, as said by our illustrious host, Kevin Morris, that one bad game does not a disastrous season make, and that Ramdom should not run panicking into the streets screaming for the heads of Scott Linehan, Marc Bulger, Steven Jackson and Jim Haslett.

We should also refrain from hijacking offensive linemen from other team buses, and rely on the carefully-selected backups in the Ram arsenal to step up and fill the flatfooted size 16s vacated on Sunday by one Orlando Pace.

And I am willing to allow the possibility that a new ProBowl left tackle is out there in the weeds somewhere. To deny that possibility would be to deny that the Kurt Warner outta-nowhere-to-MVP kind of thing can actually happen.

All I can say, though, with all that stuff notwithstanding, is that if the Rams think they have a few weeks here to square stuff away, somebody better slap ‘em around a bit and bring ‘em to their senses, QUICK, coaches and front office guys included. There needs to be a major come-to-the-mountain meeting and some IMMEDIATE actions taken, or 2007 could follow 2006, 05, yada yada, right down the crapper.

The San Francisco 49ers are coming to town in a few days, looking to go 2-0 at the Rams’ expense. Nobody needs to be reminded that would thereby leave the Rams at 0-2, flat on their collective blue and gold butt, with every upcoming opponent salivating and circling the date they get to run and pass against the Ram defense, swamp-blitz Marc Bulger who can’t seem to hit a bull in the butt with a banjo right now, and hack Steven Jackson’s forearms to ribbons trying to strip out the ball and help celebrate his latest fumble.

It is, of course, far from the end of the season. But not that far. And the situation is going to get serious, whether the Rams do or do not — or whether they like it or they don’t.

If the Rams can’t beat the 49ers to go 1-1 at home, what makes anybody think they can pull one out of a hat in Tampa or Dallas to avoid going 0-4?

This is sobering stuff, and any shuffling and butt-scratching and re-thinking of things had better get done ASAP, or the SOSAR could be back in the HOUSE.
